Making Cat Eyes

Trying out my new eyeliner cheered me up immensely. I’ve not been wearing much makeup during quarantine outside of days with Zoom conference calls, so I almost forgot how good it feels presenting a done face to the world. I couldn’t only play with my eyes. I wanted to see the full effect of my handiwork.

I went searching for a new eyeliner because I realized all of mine were over a year old. Yikes! Cosmetics companies recommend replacing the product every three to six months as a health precaution. After that length of time bacteria or fungus may have contaminated the pen.

I’ve not perfected my cat eye yet, so I consulted Allure to see what they recommended for eyeliners. The magazine awarded Stila’s Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in “Dark Brown” a 2020 Reader’s Choice Award. I decided to snag the product in “Intense Black”. I know brown gives a softer eye, but that wasn’t the look I wanted.

The felt-tip pen had a fine point that moved easily across my shadowed lid without snagging on the powder or becoming clogged by it. The line was fine, so if I made a minute error I could retrace the same spot and make the line a little thicker, and no one would be the wiser. The longer and thicker the desired cat eye, the more I’ll have to revisit the same area with the pen.

Overall, I’m happy with my first attempt! I took this face of makeup and recorded a special video that won’t be seen for some time. I had delayed starting the project because I needed to project my best cheery self. Not hard to do when looking good made me feel good!

Here’s how I made this look!
